The Parents' Association serves as the main link between the school and the parent body. The mission of the Parents' Association is to promote goodwill and understanding within the school community and to enrich the programs and environment of the school. Bryn Mawr relies upon its parent volunteers to support the curricular, social and fundraising activities of the school. Becoming a volunteer at Bryn Mawr is a wonderful way to meet parents, staff, alumnae and others affi liated with the school and to become involved in its workings. Help plan this terrifi c and safe event for the junior and senior girls immediately following the prom. The committee needs volunteers to help with planning the food, entertainment, prizes, and decorations. Night owls are needed to chaperone this party, from 11:30 p.m. to 2:30 a.m. The committee will meet 4 or 5 times from February through April. This year's Prom and After Prom will be held on the night of Saturday, April 25, 2009.
Annual Fund volunteers receive full training to successfully rally parents to join them in raising vital funds for the current school year. Phonathons take place in the fall and volunteers are asked to work one or two evenings, 3 hours per evening.
The Bazaar will be held on Saturday, May 2, 2009. Over 100 volunteers are needed to work hourly shifts at the day's activities,
including: Game Booths, Ticket Booths, Rides, Country Store, Flower Booth, Book Nook, Recycled Uniform Sale, Spirit Booth, MS
Student Activity Booths, and many others. Volunteers are also needed to serve on the Bazaar Committee to plan and promote the
event, which meets monthly from January through April. All proceeds of this special day benefIt The Bryn Mawr School Scholarship
Fund.
Both the Lower School Book Fair is a very popular event with the girls and the faculty! The LS Fair will be held in November.
Be a part of Bryn Mawr's on-campus store! Help out by volunteering for a 3 hour shift on the schedule of your choice - weekly or monthly.
In February, we devote a week to saying, "Thank You," to our wonderful faculty and staff. Volunteers are needed to serve on the committee, which will plan the luncheon menu, decorations, invitations, and more! The committee will meet approximately five times from December to February. Volunteers are also needed to work on the luncheon days to help with decorating, serving lunch, baking desserts, and monitoring LS classrooms.
Another great opportunity to let the faculty know how much we appreciate what they do! Throughout the school year, faculty meetings are held on a regular basis for each division. A volunteer is needed to supply snacks for each meeting. Volunteers can decide to prepare something themselves or purchase something. Snacks may be dropped off that morning. This is a great opportunity to get involved if you are unable to attend regularly scheduled meetings.
Volunteers are asked to assist in the Middle/Upper School Library as needed throughout the year.
BMS hosts annual Activity Nights for each grade in the Middle School. These evenings allow students from several area schools to join together for a fun night of dancing and other activities. Volunteers are needed to chaperone as well as to set-up, clean and provide food donations.
Volunteers are needed for hourly shifts to help on Picture and Picture make-up days in the Lower, Middle and Upper schools
(September - November).
This very popular sale is held in August, at the Spring Bazaar in May, and on other selected dates (based on availability of uniforms). Volunteers are needed to help collect and organize donated uniforms and work at the sales.
The Parents' Association is spearheading a very exciting and special fundraiser - The BMS Spirit Bracelet. This sterling silver charm bracelet is a one-of-a-kind piece, designed especially for Bryn Mawr, and only available to Bryn Mawr students and alumnae. Volunteers are needed to promote sales of the bracelets and charms.
The Wellness Committee organizes and moderates grade-level Parent Dialogues throughout the school year in an effort to allow parents to exchange ideas and discuss issues relevant to their daughters. This committee meets on a monthly basis and helps educate parents on health and wellness issues, risky behaviors, and safe activity choices. The committee also sponsors speakers and organizes the distribution of educational materials.
