Wow! 2020 ahead- that always seemed like the future to me, and here we are! I recently had a conversation about how many of science fiction’s inventions have become real: Star Trek’s “communicators” exist now in cell phones, hovercrafts are today’s Roombas, autonomous vehicles are prepared to deliver our every whim and Alexa is the new, much more benevolent HAL. I am eagerly awaiting a transporter to zip me from place to place at light speed!
In all seriousness, it’s hard to imagine exactly what the future will bring, but we know that artificial intelligence, big data, green technology, and women’s leadership will all play important roles in our world’s wellbeing. Schools are going to need to find ways to prepare students for a rapidly changing world that we can barely imagine right now. Problem-solving, creativity, logic and communication will no doubt be skills that are essential. These are basic elements of every class and activity here at Bryn Mawr.
As we enter this next decade (debatable, according to the internet!) some things won’t change. We’ll need to continue to empower our students to work together to impact the world and make change for the better. Delivering a world-class education to prepare our children for a bright and healthy future is our mission, and that will stand the test of time.
And who knows? Maybe one of our students will invent that transporter I need! Bryn Mars, anyone? Wishing you joy, peace and love during these holiday times.
Live Long and Prosper! And go Ravens ☺
