Bryn Mawr’s first official Daisy Day was nothing short of inspiring.
The new school tradition was established in 2019 at the Student Center groundbreaking when the City of Baltimore proclaimed that the last Friday of every January would hereby be known as Daisy Day at The Bryn Mawr School to honor the philanthropic gifts and families that made that project possible. It is a day to share school pride and gratitude, be of service to the school and inspire others to do the same.
This year, the Bryn Mawr community came together in service and in spirit to celebrate the new holiday by giving back to the school and the greater Baltimore community. Decked out in gold, white and green— and of course, daisy gear— students participated in service projects across campus, while Bryn Mawr parents and past parents, alumnae from around the world, grandparents, employees, trustees, and friends joined forced to raise over $40,000 and exceed our 150 donor goal.
Across every division, students were involved in service projects. Little School students packaged over 100 personal care kits in support of St. Vincent de Paul of Baltimore’s Beans and Bread program, Lower School collected over 10,000 diapers for fifth graders to deliver to ShareBaby, Middle School made gifts and cards for the residents of Keswick, and Upper School advisories lent a hand to our own dining and housekeeping staff members. All day long, students and faculty stopped by Daisy Day Headquarters in the Student Center to write notes of thanks to Bryn Mawr’s generous donors.
In the afternoon, the campus community gathered for an assembly to reflect on the day of service, celebrate the school’s many generous supporters, and enjoy music by Dayseye. Head of School Sue Sadler addressed the community, saying, “From today forward, I hope that Daisy Day becomes a day of significance in your life — a time each year that you’ll feel connected to the school and the entire Bryn Mawr sisterhood and network that are with you for life!”
To conclude the fun and festive day, students paraded down Main Street in the new Student Center and into the dining hall for a fun photobooth, hot chocolate and, of course, daisy cookies.
