Noël Veihmeyer - Voice
Noël Veihmeyer, a passionate music lover, blends global influences in her teaching. An expert in audition preparation, her unique approach garners significant demand. Trained at Wheaton College, she's expanded her pedagogy globally and now enriches Bryn Mawr's community.
Noël Veihmeyer is a lifelong lover of music. Having studied and taught on 3 continents, she finds great joy in pursuing and incorporating music of many cultures in her performance and instruction. She teaches voice and piano, incorporating the elements of music literacy (theory, ear-training, sight-reading, historical/cultural context, and interpretation) into every lesson. She specializes in audition preparation, having adjudicated auditions across the country, including MD Senior All-State Choir, local theatres, and classical competitions.
Mrs. Veihmeyer is sought-after as both a private instructor and a vocal/choral clinician. Her studio has served over 200 piano and voice students (ages 5 to 75) in the greater Washington, D.C. area for over a decade. While many of her students have gone on to earn scholarships at prestigious universities in both classical and contemporary music programs, she has also established a reputation of success among students with unique learning differences. Mrs. Veihmeyer is relentlessly curious about each individual student, and she loves discovering each musician’s points of ease and joy, working together with the student to expand into broader and more complex skills and concepts. Her unique approach has resulted in an annual waiting list of two to three dozen students. Mrs. Veihmeyer thrives in creative and collaborative environments, which is precisely how she views each private lesson. She takes great care in pursuing each student’s unique musical voice.
Mrs. Veihmeyer’s BME from Wheaton College Conservatory of Music (cum laude) provided a foundation of musicianship and classical pedagogical techniques from the great tradition of Western art music. In addition to winning the Virginia M. Stoner Conducting Scholarship and her selection as a Teaching Assistant for the Music Theory department, she also gained extensive background in the Kodaly, Orff, Feierabend, and Gordon methods of early childhood music development. After graduating, she moved to Lilongwe, Malawi, where she was thrilled to explore East African choral and hand drumming traditions while serving as Interim Professor of Music at African Bible College. While there, she created and directed a musical Christmas program that became the largest expatriate event in the city, and was broadcast on national radio stations for years following. Prior to teaching in Prince George's County Public Schools, she co-directed the 500-voice Graham Festival Kidzfest Choir from home plate at Camden Yards. A Certification from Estill Voice, International afforded Mrs. Veihmeyer a thorough understanding of the anatomy, physiology, and acoustics of the human vocal mechanism as well as common vocal pathologies and evidence-based solutions. Delving deeper into the brain-body connection and the somatic ideology of the whole body as the singing instrument, Mrs. Veihmeyer studied with the Feldenkrais Training Program of Baltimore. She is currently pursuing a Master’s in Choral Conducting from Messiah University and a certification with Core Singing, which combines quantum mechanics and Eastern concepts of energy with traditional classical pedagogies. Mrs. Veihmeyer has collaborated with renowned teachers including Rubert Sussuma, Tom Burke, Buzz Mauro, Jennifer Hamady, and Annie Sellick to bring annual Master Classes to her students on topics ranging from “acting the song” to “performing through stage fright.”
