Bryn Mawr Welcomes Six New Term Trustees

The Bryn Mawr School Board of Trustees is pleased to welcome six new members who begin three-year terms in June 2024: Katharine Burgin P'34, Christine Espenshade P'26, Dr. Redonda G. Miller P’23 ’27, Marissa Pio Roda '93, P'30, Arun Subhas P'25 and Jamila Webb P'24. Additionally, Bernice Lee P’26 will serve as President of the Parents’ Association. 

Current trustees Dr. Sandra Cho '92, P'28 '26, Nicole Foster '02, and Kiana Jacqueline Hebron '95 were elected to their second three-year terms, and, beginning June 1, 2024, Elizabeth Himelfarb Hurwitz '93, P'26 '31 will begin serving as Vice Chair of the Board of Trustees and Christopher Lenox P'35 as Assistant Treasurer.

The Board thanked the following trustees who are completing their terms for their outstanding dedication and service to the school: Cynthia Amitin, MD ’85, P’20; Rebecca D. Henry P’10; Georgie Smith ’72, P’01, GP’32 ’33 ’37; Monica Tucker P’16 ’19; Mark Weigman P’20 ’22; Tom Spies P’94, GP’27; and Christine Cross P’21. Trustees also expressed appreciation for the service of outgoing Parents’ Association President Karla Aghajanian P’26 and faculty representatives Katie Walsh P’34 ’36 and Sumayyah Honeyblue.

Kate Burgin is the General Manager at Catalyte, Inc., where she leads the company's apprentice programs. Her career has spanned leadership roles in both the public and private sectors. Prior to joining Catalyte, Kate worked at the Walters Art Museum in Baltimore for six years, most recently as Deputy Director. Previously, Kate managed strategic client teams at Boston Consulting Group and worked as Senior Vice President at a national consulting firm dedicated to strengthening nonprofit organizations and their funders. Kate holds a B.A. in history and literature and an MBA from Harvard University. She is a graduate of The Leadership Program and serves on the board of the Walters Art Museum and on the Greater Baltimore Committee. Kate and her husband Angus have three children—Margot '34, Alex, and Sam.

Christine Espenshade is a Vice Chairman at Newmark focusing on multifamily capital markets. She is a 25-year real estate veteran who focuses on the sale, financing, and capitalization of multifamily investments throughout the United States with a specialty in the Washington, DC region. During her investment sales career, she has managed the sale or recapitalization of more than $12 billion in investments. She started her career in Dallas, Texas working for Goldman Sachs in their real estate division. Christine currently chairs the board of the Enoch Pratt Free Library and has also had volunteer positions on the boards of The Walters Art Museum, The Elkridge Club, The Women's Hospital Foundation, and AIRS (a transitional housing non-profit). Christine earned a B.A. from the Department of Politics at Princeton University. She and her husband Peter have two children—Bennett (Gilman ’24) and Clara ’26.

Bernice Lee earned a B.A. in economics from the University of California at Berkeley and started her career as a fixed income research analyst for the emerging markets group at Bear Stearns in Hong Kong. She continued her career in Los Angeles, joining Canyon Capital as an asset manager for an urban commercial real estate fund in partnership with Magic Johnson Enterprises. Currently, she is the finance/growth manager at her husband’s medical practice which is part of Privia Medical Group, based in Arlington, VA. Bernice also serves on the Alumni Leadership Committee at UC Berkeley, reviewing scholarship applications and advocating for the school’s Center for Equity and Excellence, which supports first-generation and underrepresented students. Bernice has been actively involved in the Bryn Mawr Parents’ Association since 2019. Bernice and her husband Ben are the parents of Lucy ’26 and Oliver (Gilman ’28).

Dr. Redonda Miller is president of The Johns Hopkins Hospital, a 1,100-bed academic medical center with more than 11,000 employees, $3 billion in operating revenue, and a dual mission of innovation and community care. Since her appointment in 2016, Redonda has advanced the hospital's focus on providing exceptional clinical care; enhancing quality, safety, and the patient experience; and improving health equity and outcomes for residents in Baltimore City. During her tenure, The Johns Hopkins Hospital has been consistently recognized for clinical excellence, maintaining its ranking among the top hospitals in the nation. A practicing internist, Redonda continues to see patients and is also active in several community and professional organizations including Turnaround Tuesday and Gilchrist. She and her husband Albert have two daughters—Francesca ’23 and Bianca ’27.

Marissa is currently a product manager at Instructure, Inc for the Canvas LMS product, where the mission is "to elevate student success, amplify the power of teaching, and inspire everyone to learn together." Marissa started her career in workforce development working closely with training providers and managing the data system as the director of data services for the Private Industry Council of San Francisco, Inc. and later as a grants administrator for the Baltimore City Mayor's Office of Employment Development. She worked in research administration at The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine for more than a decade before pivoting to the education technology field. Marissa earned a B.A. in international affairs from George Washington University and an M.A. in urban planning with a concentration in regional and international development from UCLA. She and her husband Ryan have two children, Paulena '30, and Santiago, who attends Calvert School.

Arun is a partner at Ernst & Young LLP and serves large multinational clients providing tax services including tax mergers and acquisitions, reorganizations, tax compliance and tax reporting for financial statements. He also serves as the Managing Partner of the Baltimore office. Prior to a career in public accounting, he served in the United States Army for seven years. Arun and his wife Shilta have been part of the Baltimore community for over 24 years. Their daughter Sameena '25 has been at Bryn Mawr since Little School. Arun is active in the community including service on several boards of non-profit organizations and at his parish, Cathedral of Mary our Queen.

Jamila Webb is a partner with Ernst & Young LLP specializing primarily in assurance services to government entities. She is a licensed Certified Public Accountant (CPA) in Maryland, the District of Columbia and Virginia with over 20 years in the public accounting profession. Jamila is a native Baltimorean, graduating from Western High School in 1993. Afterwards, she majored in accounting and earned her B.S. at Morgan State University. Outside of work, Jamila serves on the board of the Boys &Girls Clubs of Metropolitan Baltimore. She is the proud mother of Laila '24, a 14-year Bryn Mawr girl.
