The Bryn Mawr School presents the annual fall musical, The Addams Family, running Oct. 21-24 in Centennial Hall.
The production is Upper School Theatre Director Kelly Cardall’s first for Bryn Mawr and includes more than 50 Bryn Mawr and Gilman students as on-stage performers, stage crew and musicians. Cardall said, “I am so grateful to the cast and crew who have done an incredible job preparing for this production in just a few short weeks! They have worked tirelessly and joyfully to prepare for our first live musical theatre performance since the pandemic. I am truly inspired by the talent and dedication of the cast, crew, and creative leadership team.”
The show features Addams Family favorites such as Morticia, played by Mia Boydston ‘23, and Wednesday, played by Sophie Gourmand ‘24, with a cast rounded out by six Gilman members. Carolyn Su ‘23 joins the pit orchestra on the violin.
In her director’s note, Cardall explains what draws audiences to the Addams Family and why it’s
messaging still resonates. “What has made this group of creepy oddballs so endearing for generations of audiences is the message of devotion to family and acceptance of those who are "different" than us, an attitude exemplified by the exceptional group of students who not only worked tirelessly to put on this show, but also emanated a welcoming and collaborative spirit with the artistic team and fellow cast & crew mates. As we navigate a divisive world around us, the Addamses remind us to “let each foreign forest offer you its rain” as we find truth and love in ‘the darkness’.”
