Bryn Mawr to Honor Dr. Redonda G. Miller P’23 with Howard P. Colhoun Family Woman of Consequence Award

The Howard P. Colhoun Family Woman of Consequence Award, named in honor of a loyal Bryn Mawr volunteer leader, inspires the next generation of changemakers by celebrating and supporting women who have used their voices and actions to make positive contributions to the building of a more equitable and just world. “Leadership not only comes from experience, but seeing others do it well,” said Howard “Pete” Colhoun P’82 ‘84 ‘92, Bryn Mawr trustee emeritus. “My family and I are pleased to support this important initiative at Bryn Mawr to provide students with inspiration and role models of leadership. Showing young girls what other women have accomplished in life puts it in their realm of possibility and reach.”

During Dr. Miller’s tenure, The Johns Hopkins Hospital has been consistently recognized for clinical excellence, maintaining its ranking among the top hospitals in the nation on the U.S. News & World Report Honor Roll and earning its fourth consecutive Magnet designation for nursing excellence from the American Nurses Credentialing Center. In 2019, the hospital received gold certification for person-centered care from Planetree International, becoming the largest academic medical center in the world to be certified by the organization.

Dr. Miller arrived at Johns Hopkins as a medical student in 1988. She joined the medical faculty in 1997 and earned a master’s degree in business administration from The Johns Hopkins University in 2004. Since then, she has served in several administrative roles of increasing responsibility, including vice chair of clinical operations for the Department of Medicine and senior vice president of medical affairs for the Johns Hopkins Health System. She has been an associate professor in the Department of Medicine since 2006. A practicing internist, Dr. Miller continues to see patients, and her firsthand experience helps inform the decisions she makes to ensure that patients receive the highest quality care and that providers and staff members are supported in their work.

“I have always been inspired by a woman of consequence that Johns Hopkins and Bryn Mawr are privileged to share–Mary Elizabeth Garrett. More than a century ago, Ms. Garrett opened doors for women in education and in medicine. She knew the importance of removing obstacles so that future generations would have a clear path forward,” Dr. Miller said. “I am a beneficiary of her courage and foresight. I am incredibly humbled to receive this year’s Howard P. Colhoun Family Woman of Consequence Award.”

The Howard P. Colhoun Family Woman of Consequence Award event will be held on Thursday, May 5, 2022 at 7 p.m. in Centennial Hall, followed by a reception.
