Bryn Mawr Wins Sixth Consecutive AP Computer Science Award

For the sixth consecutive year, the Bryn Mawr School has been given the College Board AP Computer Science Female Diversity Award. The College Board created the award to help close the gender gap in computer science by increasing access to AP Computer Science classes in schools.

Once again, Bryn Mawr received the award for AP Computer Science A and AP Computer Science Principles, making it one of just 69 schools nationwide to receive the honor.  Of the 54 schools in Maryland to receive AP Computer Science awards, only five, including Bryn Mawr, received awards for both courses.

Bryn Mawr offers computer science courses in Lower, Middle and Upper School beginning with a device free class in PreK, progressing to honors machine learning and computational creativity.  Upper School students are required to take an introductory computer science course and can continue their studies with classes ranging from entrepreneurship to programming their own iPhone applications.

"We are thrilled to once again be celebrating the work of our Computer Science department, led by our outstanding female faculty, who consistently prepares and engages our students in post-graduation studies of computer science, " said Kate Klein, Associate Director of College Counseling and AP Program Coordinator. "Our AP Computer Science A and Computer Science Principles courses allow our students to explore their interest in the field at a college level now, prepare them for the admissions process, and provide the skills to thrive in university STEM programs."
