Maryland STEM Career Fair for Girls
Bryn Mawr hosted the 8th annual Maryland STEM Career Fair for Girls as a virtual event on Dec. 8, 2020. Students had 10 options for each of four different 30-minute long sessions between 6-8 p.m. Women from 40 different organizations will be speaking about their pathways and careers in the STEM industry. The Maryland STEM Career Fair was the second event in the Leadership in Action Speaker Series, which provides opportunities to hear from and engage with inspiring leaders to help foster active engagement and responsibility to the broader community.
Bryn Mawr hosted the 8th annual Maryland STEM Career Fair for Girls as a virtual event on Dec. 8, 2020. Students had 10 options for each of four different 30-minute long sessions between 6-8 p.m. Women from 40 different organizations will be speaking about their pathways and careers in the STEM industry. The Maryland STEM Career Fair was the second event in the Leadership in Action Speaker Series, which provides opportunities to hear from and engage with inspiring leaders to help foster active engagement and responsibility to the broader community.
Volunteers from organizations including Baltimore Museum of Art, Google, PayPal Inc, Stanley Black & Decker, McCormick Taylor, Northrop Grumman, NASA, FDA, Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, National Institute on Drug Abuse, Johns Hopkins Technology Ventures, CDI Labs Inc, National Institute of Health, University of Maryland School of Medicine, Firaxis Games, Zenimax Online, Vectorworks Inc, United States Naval Academy, University of Maryland Pharmacy School, Hord Coplan Macht, The Whiting-Turner Contracting Company, Textron Systems and Space Telescope Institute spoke with students.
Dr. Eric Elton, director of community engagement, said, “We are grateful to the over 20 faculty and staff members who helped set-up sessions for the STEM Fair. We had over 90 women volunteering as members of 40 different speakers panels. We estimate that over 350 girls attended from more than 70 schools across Maryland. Even though we were unable to be in person, feedback from students and presenters alike has been overwhelmingly positive. We are thankful that we could continue this Bryn Mawr tradition, hosting the Fair for the 8th consecutive year.”
