10th Grade: Day of Career Exploration

Representing employers such as the Department of Defense, Johns Hopkins Children’s Center, The Weinberg Foundation, Ernst & Young, and The Walters Art Museum, tenth grade Career Day brought more than 30 parents and alumnae to campus to share their professional experiences, offer advice, and answer student questions.
The event stemmed from feedback from last year’s sophomore class as a way to prepare students before they start the college search process to bring “more awareness of what they'd like to study and who they want to be,” said Shanae Giles, Assistant Director of College Counseling.

After a keynote address by Jen Ewing Fox ‘99, Assistant Director of the Success Coaching Program in Academic Advising at Johns Hopkins University, students selected three panels to attend based on their personal interests, including business & marketing, medicine, law and education. Students called the day “fun and informative,” and said it was a great opportunity to “get specific questions answered from people who are actually doing what I want to do.”

“It's so important to expose students to diverse career paths because it can be hard to see a professional future for oneself at that age,” said Giles. “Now, they will have some ideas and inspiration to chart their own way!”
