Emily Fetting ’02 Named Upper School Director

The Bryn Mawr School is pleased to announce the appointment of Emily Fetting ’02 to the position of Upper School Director beginning July 1, 2024. She will succeed Dr. Nicole Hood who will become Head of School at Abington Friends School next year. 

“In addition to Emily’s positive energy and genuine enthusiasm, her valuable experience as an Upper School administrator, unwavering dedication to supporting students, strong connections with colleagues, and commitment to balancing academic excellence with student well-being make her a clear fit to helm our school’s largest division,” said Sue Sadler, Head of School. 

A 2002 alumna, Emily returned to Bryn Mawr in 2018 as Upper School Dean of Students. In this role, Emily helped develop a new advisory program, redesigned Orientation and student leadership programs, and directed all aspects of student life programs, including retreats, clubs and senior projects. She also worked with Upper School Department Chairs to provide vision and support around connecting the school’s strategic plan, Bryn Mawr, Beyond, to Upper School life. In 2021, Emily was awarded the Blair D. Stambaugh Award for the employee who contributes the most to the overall well-being of the Bryn Mawr community. 

Previously, Emily spent ten years at National Cathedral School, a private day school for girls in grades 4–12 in Washington, DC, where she held several leadership roles, including Middle School Dean of Students, Director of Global Outreach, and Director of Service Learning. She was also a classroom teacher and advisor at NCS. Emily holds a B.A. in history from the University of Southern California and a Master of Science in Education from the University of Pennsylvania.

The Upper School team of teachers and staff are experts who are eager to talk about learning and excited to support young people in their development. At Bryn Mawr, we educate our students to develop and use their voices for good in the world. What an honor; what a gift to be able to do this work,” said Emily Fetting. “I hold this leadership responsibility carefully and with gratitude for the ways this school has changed my life and continues to change lives every day. There's no place like Bryn Mawr!” 

Bryn Mawr’s Upper School Director Search Committee, made up of parents, faculty, alumnae, and administrators, worked with the firm Carney Sandoe & Associates on the search, which attracted a talented pool of candidates from across the country.
