Competitive winter league sports with the IAAM are scheduled to begin after the new year. In the meantime, the Athletics Department is offering an after school program to run from November 10 through December 17 to keep our student athletes active and conditioned.
Please note, this is an optional program and attendance does not guarantee team placement for the winter and spring competitive seasons. Athletes who do not participate in this optional programming are still eligible to try out for competitive winter and spring sports seasons.
The program is designed to give athletes the opportunity to stay engaged with teammates and coaches, remain active, and either maintain or improve their fitness levels. All students were emailed a survey for a daily sign-up and their participation has been confirmed. If a student missed the sign-up, they may contact me about joining. We are able to offer strength and conditioning, basketball, street hockey, dryland swim workouts, squash, golf, lacrosse, track, and softball. The sport-specific sessions are designed to be largely pick-up-style, with some skill training pending the number of athletes and the coach’s philosophy.
Strength and conditioning, basketball, street hockey, dryland swim workouts, lacrosse, track and softball will take place on the Bryn Mawr campus from 4-5pm on designated days.
Golf will take place at Fox Hollow Driving Range from 4-5pm. Transportation is not provided for golf and athletes driving themselves or riding with another athlete or another athlete’s parent must have a driving permission form signed by a parent in order to participate. Athletes transported by their own parents do not need a driving permission form. Masks are required to be worn in school vehicles or when traveling with anyone not in the athlete’s family.
Squash will take place at Coppermine Barehills from 4:30-5:30 pm. Athletes were assigned to a Tuesday or Thursday group. Unfortunately, we are limited in how many athletes for which we can provide transportation. We surveyed students about transportation and if all the students who indicated they could drive themselves or ride with other athletes or parents submit their driving permission forms, we will be able to accomodate transportation. Athletes taking school transportation (BMS mini bus driven by the coach) must be present at the mini bus by 4:10 for a 4:15pm departure and may be picked up at the venue at 5:30 pm otherwise, they will return to school via the mini bus to be picked up on campus at 5:45 pm. Masks are required to be worn in school vehicles or when traveling with anyone not in the athletes family. No parents are permitted in the squash facility.
Listed below are the safety precautions and procedures for each sport, as well as a schedule chart of offerings and locations. Please contact me at veprekc@brynmawrschool.org with any questions. We look forward to beginning Tuesday, November 10.
