Cum Laude Society Inducts Eight New Members
On the morning of April 3, eight students from the Class of 2018 were inducted into the Bryn Mawr chapter of the Cum Laude Society.
Seniors Jessica Cahn, Myra Dada, Sophia DeVito, Maryam Hyder, Lucy Kaufman, YeRin Kim, Olivia Rubin, and Emily Zhang were recognized for their academic accomplishments as they were welcomed into the society. Current senior members, inducted last year, were also recognized: Clare Booth, Sarah Cahn, Alice Carnell, Eleanor Citron, Margaret King, Margaret Smith, Serena Thaw-Poon, and Caroline Troy.
Established in 1906 as the Alpha Delta Tau fraternity, the Cum Laude Society is dedicated to honoring scholastic achievement in secondary schools. It has more than 380 chapters around the world, including in the United States, the Philippines, Puerto Rico, Canada, England, and several other European countries. Membership is selective; schools are allowed to induct a maximum of 20 percent of the senior class. Members are chosen based on academic record, good character, honor and integrity. This year, due to a change in the national Cum Laude rules, only seniors were inducted into the society. The top 10 percent of the junior class will be inducted at the very end of the school year, and the remaining 10 percent will be inducted after March of their senior year.
